5 Types of Logo Designs to Consider for Your Business

When creating a logo, you should account for the various forms a logo comes in. They can be plain text, a symbol, or a combination of the two. Here are five different logotypes and examples of each.

Abstract logos are imaged-based and use abstract forms to represent a brand. They’re unique and don’t say a name or describe a brand. Some examples include Pepsi, Chase, and Spotify.

Letterform logos include the first letter or initials of a brand. Letterform can be a good choice for reasonably well-known brands, like Netflix, Mcdonald’s, and the Yankees.

Emblem logos feature text, a symbol, or imagery inside a geometric shape. This logo is popular among coffee brands, sports teams, and colleges. A few examples are Superman, WB, and Starbucks.

Pictorial logos are graphic symbols or icons based on a real-world object. Over time, the symbol itself becomes associated with the brand through repeated exposure. The symbol can now be used on its own, separated from the company name. Some examples are Apple, Twitter, and John Deer.

Wordmark logos are letter-based and only feature the name of a business. It doesn’t use symbols, badges, or mascots. A few examples include FedEx, Google, and Coca-Cola.
